Volunteer and Ride-Along Programs

​Volunteer Program

Do you have a special skill set or talent you would like to share in the area of arts and crafts, creative writing, cutting hair, physical education, life coaching skills, or maybe just a good listener? If so, this may be a great opportunity for you to play an integral part in the lives of detained and troubled youth. Volunteers are a valuable resource and are utilized in various ways at the Youth Detention Facility. Programs include, but are not limited to: mentoring, tutoring, recreational activities, youth diversion/prevention programs, and chaplaincy.

 

Minimum qualifications for Citizen Volunteers:

  • Must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older
  • Must not be on any form of probation or parole for at least one year
  • Must have a valid California Driver License
  • Must attend a 4 hour Multi-Disciplinary Training annually
  • Must pass a background investigation which includes a $32 fee to be fingerprinted
  • Must test negative for tuberculosis
  • Commit to volunteering a minimum of 4 hours a month 

​Ride-Along Program 

The Ride-Along Program offers members of the public the opportunity to interact with officers from our Department. The program seeks to increase public awareness regarding the functions of Probation Officers and introduces the wide-range of services the Department provides the community.
